The title is inspired by Geology, where it is used to describe layers consisting of rock and mineral fragments. The piece is based exactly on this idea, namely a flow of sonic fragments that retain their hard boundaries while at the same time belonging to a much larger structure. The musical discourse that evolves is based on temporal and spectral relationships across various time scales.
